ART BY CHANCE is the brand new “Ultra Short Film Festival” that will be aired in 14 countries and 64 cities, between May 22 – June 3, 2009.
The Art By Chance Launch Party in New York will give you a chance to see all the films in the inaugural festival as well as be part of a very unique experience. All Art By Chance Films where made with the intention of being seen on digital signage, so most of the films are silent. To add to the “by chance”, we are bringing in Musicians to create impromptu scores/soundtracks of all the films live!

This is the second film I have scored for Karen Cantor of Singing Wolf Documentaries. Dealing with end of life choices, I found a perfect song in the Amelia’s Dream catalog called “Before Your Time” to anchor the movie’s main character, Merian. The song was written by Amelia Gewirtz and myself in memory of a close friend.
Habitat composer Chad North co-founded breakbeat and tech-funk blog/podcast Jungo Road (www.jungoroad.com) earlier this year to highlight the more eclectic sounds of underground dance music in NYC.
The concept, “West Coast beats to the East Coast”, is meant to spotlight promoters and DJ/producers in New York that are pushing dance music forward and not limiting themselves to “bottle-service club” trends - referring to the healthy breakbeat and tech-funk scene in West coast cities like San Francisco. Habitat composer Chad North is currently recording for UK-based electro-house label Erase Records and has his debut single with the label set to drop June 1st.
This third collaboration with San Francisco-based DJ Aaron Pope will be available as an exclusive release on Beatport first – with a wider release to follow.
The track, entitled The Grind, is an electro-breaks hip-hop influenced banger that has already been storming clubs on the West coast. The package was mastered at Habitat Music by Ming and features vocals by Australian-based hip-hop artist Estae. [click to continue…]

I just finished writing and producing the score for Nancy Schwartzman’s THE LINE. Even though her film covers some tough topics, we had great time working together. Check her site to find out when and where its being shown or schedule a showing near you!!
Here’s the official blurb and trailer.
“THE LINE is a film that explores the intersection of sexual identity, power and violence. How do we negotiate our boundaries as sexually liberated women? How much are we desensitized to sexual violence? Through conversations with football players, educators, survivors of violence, prostitutes, and attorneys, this personal film explores the “grey area” and the elusive line of consent.”
THE LINE is a personal documentary exploring sexual boundaries and consent. A cautionary story that is both provocative and engaging, the film is tool to start conversation.
By Nancy Schwartzman
Total running time 24 minutes.
Underground techno and house DJ, ConSTAR – a.k.a. Connie – has been in the studio lately working with Ming on a couple of tracks for an upcoming release on Airdrop Records. ConSTAR’s “Redhot” is included in Airdrop’s Extraction Us compilation.
She also just completed a remix for Restart & Stone/Viesse of “Madeja (Daytrippin’ remix).”
Connie, who is also an accomplished drummer, is currently playing in a couple of New York-based bands Who But She and Psychic Drive.
Connie’s electronic tracks pay homage to her rock influences and she’s constantly pushing herself to make more than the “average electronic track”. These songs feature spoken word, vocals, and an assortment of thematic sounds inspired by her favorite movies or martial arts study. Still minimal in nature but expanding on the genre.
